AbstractZlatna, written by Martin Opitz, is one of the most brilliant poetic creations belonging to a foreign writer, who dedicated some of his work to the Romanian territory and soul. In the opinion of the literary historians, Martin Opitz is the most important poet of the 17th century and father of the modern german poetry. He published his lirical creations, odes, sonetts, inclusive his poem Zlatna in the volume Deutsche Poemata (1624) and he expressed his beliefs regarding poetic art in Buch von der deutschen Poeterey (1624). The poem Zlatna was written within two years (1622 – 1623), when he worked as a Latin, Philosophy and Esthetic teacher at the German College, founded by the Prince of Transylvania, Gabriel Bethlen. The present article has got 3 parts: historical and cultural background, life and work and the analysis of the poem Zlatna.
