Abstract
Nicolae Ștefu was born on the 4th of December 1855, in the locality Cladova, Arad County. Obtaining his credentials, after following the courses of the Preparandia from Arad, in 1876, he becomes confessional teacher in Șiria, a great locality from the County of Arad, where he organised the first choir of the peasants, sustaining the cultural role of the music for the Romanian people. The choir was functioning in the bosom of the church, but in its repertory it also had patriotic songs specific for the realities of the time. The idea of the national emancipation unified Nicolae Ștefu’s ideals and the ones of the important personalities of the time: Ciprian Porumbescu, Iosif Vulcan and others.
After a life dedicated in its totality to his people, Nicolae Ștefu deceased in Arad, in 1914.

Nicolae Ștefu est né le 4 décembre 1855, dans la localité Cladova, département d’Arad. Obtenant l’atestat, après les cours de Preparandia d’Arad, en 1876, il devient instituteur confessionnel à Siria, grande localité d’Arad, où il a organisé la première chorale des paysans envisageant le rôle culturel de la musique pour le peuple roumain. La chorale fonctionnait au sein de l’Église, mais dans son répertoire il y avait aussi des chansons patriotiques spécifiques à la réalité de l’époque.
L’idée de l’émancipation nationale a uni les idéaux de Nicolae Ștefu et des personnalités importantes du temps, Ciprian Porumbescu, Iosif Vulcan, et autres. Après une vie dédiée absolument à son peuple, Nicolae Ştefu a décédé à Arad, en 1914.
REZUMAT
Nicolae Ștefu s-a născut la 4 decembrie 1855, în localitatea Cladova, județul Arad. Obținând atestatul, după cursurile de la Preparandia din Arad, în 1876, el devine învățător confesional la Șiria, o mare localitate din Arad, unde a organizat primul cor al țăranilor, susținând rolul cultural al muzicii pentru poporul român. Corul funcționa în sânul bisericii, dar în repertoriul său erau și cântece patriotice specifice realităților epocii.
Ideea emancipării naționale a unit idealurile lui Nicolae Ștefu și a personalităților importante ale timpului: Ciprian Porumbescu, Iosif Vulcan și alții.
După o viață dedicată în totalitate poporului său, Nicolae Ștefu a decedat la Arad, în 1914.
