Abstract:
The paper aims at analysing the pragmatic values of personal pronouns in a literaty text, from the perspective of politeness strategies. Together with all referential expressions and combined with means of expressing modality, personal pronouns bring their contribution to marking positive or negative face strategies. As any linguistic structure, personal pronouns can acquire various pragmatic connotations, depending both on social conventions and register used and on the historical and cultural background.
