Abstract
In order to outline the complexity of the human nature and the thin border between existential feelings, this work focus presents the short story Pădureanca, wrote by Ioan Slavici, most exactly the possibility to apply the concept of tragic to this text.
We start by presenting the opinion of Gabriel Liiceanu about the tragic as a literary concept and we demonstrate the character’s orientation towards a dramatic romance or a kind of happy tragedy, far enough of the authentic concept of tragic.
We also analyze the relation between the two young protagonists and the traditional mentality, the social compulsions facing their love.
