Abstract
Petru Stoianov graduated the University of Music in Bucharest, where he studied musical composition with Anatol Vieru. He composed almost all musical genres; we should emphasize a cycle of musical pieces inspired from Nichita Stănescu’s poetry or other pieces dedicated to the “Archaeus” Workshop or to the “Contraste” Trio. Prizewinner of some international or national compositional contests since 1980, he adopted the section aurea type of proportion, creating a personal compositional system. Within it, Petru Stoianov created different scales of sounds proportionally determined such as frequency (pitch) and duration (rhythm). At the same time he expanded the study of proportions from the level of intervals (frequency) and rhythm (duration) to instrumental constituency or to the form and the architecture of the whole by using so called “knots” (reunion of frequencies and duration) or “signs” (as developments in others scales, as “windows” to other modal perspectives) – possible structures on a modal model scale.
