Abstracts

A brief history regarding the development of the Institute of Atomic Physics from its

foundation (1949) until today is described. The stages of the evolution of this multidisciplinary

Institute which became one of the centre of scientific excellence in Romania, is emphasized. Some

of its well known achievements for the economy of Romania, e.g. the development of the electronuclear

industry, the computer industry, also the applications of the radiosotopes in medicine and

in various fields are presented.
