Abstract
The study defines itself as an analysis of the present day economic view applied to epic
episodes in the novel Mara, by I.S. and a story written by I.G. The analysis points out to the way in
which two characters tackle the idea of starting a business. One of the projects is romantic and has
nothing to do with the real life, while the other one is realistic and therefore, bears many more
chances of success. The two attitudes represent the mentalities and attitudes specific for the
romanticism and realism periods, as they appear in the economic thinking.
