Abstract
The evolution of the Jewish community in Transylvania and Banat can not be traced statistically until the beginning of the 18th century. In the 18th century (1737-1787) the most important demographic increase occurs in the North-Western area while in Southern Crişana the demographic increase was slower, and in Banat, excepting Timişoara, it was extremely reduced. The Jewish immigration was a contradictory process, depending on the multitude of local situations.
The 18th and the 19th century constituted a period of settlement and adaptation to the local realities for the Jewish population from Banat and Transylvania. This was the basis for future developments in the following centuries.
