Abstract
In this article we will try to show that it is possible and, especially, desirable to translate a proverb in a source language into a proverb in the target language trying, as much as possible, to respect the triple dimension, semantic, stylistic and pragmatic, of this paremia in the research of interlinguistic equivalence. Systematic work of this kind would make a great service to bilingual lexicographers and especially the translators of literary works that are usually stuffed with proverbs. We begin by trying to define the concept of the proverb, then we try to show, by relying on the theory of the proverb as denomination (Kleiber), that there is, relatively speaking, a perfect symmetry between the proverbial equivalence and lexical equivalence.
Résumé
Nous tenterons ici de montrer qu’il est possible et surtout souhaitable de traduire un proverbe d’une langue source par un autre proverbe dans la langue cible en essayant, autant que faire se peut, de respecter la triple dimension sémantique, stylistique et pragmatique de cette parémie dans la recherche de l’équivalence interlinguistique. Un travail systématique de ce type rendrait un grand service aux lexicographes bilingues et surtout aux traducteurs d’œuvres littéraires qui sont habituellement truffées de proverbes. Nous commencerons par un essai de définition du concept de proverbe et tenterons ensuite de montrer, en nous appuyant sur la théorie du proverbe comme dénomination de George Kleiber, qu’il y a, toutes proportions gardées, une symétrie presque parfaite entre l’équivalence proverbiale et l’équivalence lexicale.
Rezumat
Vom încerca să arătăm aici că este posibil și mai ales de dorit să traducem un proverb dintr-o limbă sursă printr-un alt proverb în limba țintă încercând, atât cât se poate, să respectăm tripla dimensiune semantică, stilistică și pragmatică a acestei parimii în căutarea echivalenței interlingvistice. O muncă sistematică de acest tip ar face un mare serviciu lexicografilor bilingvi și mai ales traducătorilor de opere literare care sunt în mod obișnuit asaltați de proverbe. Vom începe printr-o încercare de definire a conceptului de proverb iar apoi vom încerca să arătăm, sprijinindu-ne pe teoria proverbului ca denominație a lui George Kleiber, că există, păstrând proporțiile, o simetrie aproape perfectă între echivalența proverbială și echivalența lexicală.
