Abstract:
Once the Romania Mare (Great Romania) was created by the union act that took place on the 1st of December 1918, the Romanians from Transylvania were looking for equality on every account with other nations. Buteni’s archpriest at the time Florian Roxin (1913 – 1930), the leader of Romanians’ delegation in Alba-Iulia, great nationalist defender and one of Vasile Goldis’s collaborators, is planning to establish a church in order to transfer the orthodox center at the same location as the administrative center of the village.
With the support of the orthodox Christians and of Vasile Goldis – Minister of Culture for a short period – archpriest Florian Roxin, himself senator at the time, manages to build between 1927 – 1929 the greatest Orthodox Church in the county.
The sanctification took place on the 10th of November 1929 and it was carried on by dr. Grigorie GH. Comsa, Arad’s bishop, with the participation of the most well-known clerical and administrative personalities, headed by the great patriot Vasile Goldis.
There were present priests and residents from neighbored villages, representatives of the Catholic Church from Buteni, even a few Baptists, round about 10.000 people, which glorified God through the sound of bells, psalms and prayers.
