Abstract

The study analyzes the way in which formative and summative evaluation are used in educational practice in Romania. The conclusion is that it is urgent that measures of improvement should be taken. These refer to the formation of human resources, to the providing of material resources but also to the time factor which the evaluator practician should have at their disposal for a modern evaluation within the school programme. Investments made in this respect are wholly justified by at least two arguments: the selection of students for higher education could be made correctly and,  through information acquired in the course of due time, through evaluation, corrections of given changes in didactic strategies, could become efficient.
