MONȘTRII DIN ROMANUL CAT’S CRADLE DE KURT VONNEGUT
Abstract
The following article centers on the fact that the novel Cat’s Cradle written by Kurt Vonnegut appealed so greatly in the first years after its publication to the American Counter-Culture Movement of the 1960’s and 1970’s. The premise is that in his work the author takes on a distinctly anti-war position and rejects the faith in science that was characteristic of traditional American society. What the present article will endeavor to show is that, while on the surface one might consider that the writer’s sentiment of protest and rejection are made manifest simply through the events that take place in the novel, Kurt Vonnegut in fact transmits his ideas in a more subtle manner, by turning his characters into monsters.

L’article suivant est centré sur le fait que le roman Cat’s Craddle écrit par Kurt Vonnegut a eu un grand succès, pendant les premières années après sa publication, parmi les membres du Mouvement contre-culture américain pendant 1960-1970. La prémisse est que dans son œuvre l’écrivain prend une position contre la guerre et refuse la foi dans la science qu’était caractéristique de la société américaine traditionnelle. Ce que cet article essaie à montrer est que, même si apparemment on peut considérer que les sentiments de protestation et rejet de l’écrivain se manifestent simplement à travers des évènements du roman, Kurt Vonnegut en fait transmet ses idées dans une façon plus subtile, en transformant ses personnages dans des monstres.
Rezumat
Articolul de față se concentrează pe faptul că romanul Cat’s Cradle scris de Kurt Vonnegut a avut un mare succes în primii ani după publicarea sa în rândul membrilor Mișcării Contra-culturale Americane din anii 1960-1970. Premiza constă în faptul că în opera sa autorul își asumă o poziție anti-război și respinge credința în știință care fusese caracteristică societății americane tradiționale. Scopul prezentului articol este de a arăta că, deși s-ar putea considera că sentimentul autorului de protest și respingere se manifestă pur și simplu prin acțiunea din roman, de fapt Kurt Vonnegut își transmite ideile într-un mod mai subtil, prin transformarea personajelor sale în monștri.
