Abstract
Arad-Podgoria, the first electrified railway in Eastern Europe.
In 1906 started to work 1000 mm narrow gauge railway with diesel traction, on the line Arad-
Ghioroc-Pancota-Radna.
In 1913, because of the small-efficiency, the old electrical locomotives were replaced with new
models with full electrical traction. “The green arrow” circulated without interruption until the first of
October 1991, when the lines Ghioroc-Radna and Ghioroc-Pancota were canceled. The line Arad-Ghioroc
was equipped with city tramways.
During the eighty-five years of its existence, the narrow gauge belonging to the joint-stock company
Arad-Pancota brought economical and cultural profits for Arad’s vineyards and also for the city itself.
