Abstract:

It seems that in the Antiquity the name of this Roman camp and of the nearby civil settlement was Resculum. However, this localization generated several disputes, pros and cons opinions that were not resolved even today. The military troops attested here by the stamped tegular material are: cohors I Ulpia Brittonum milliaria, cohors II Hispanorum Scutata Cyrenaica equitata, and cohors I Aelia Gaesatorum milliaria.

Having as a reference point the definitions TYPE-VARIANTS (THE TYPE is made up of a certain number of letters and the way of abbreviating the name of the military unit. The type is considered as the ideal form, representing – basically – the abbreviation used to designate the name of a certain military unit. THE VARIANTS are considered the modifications occurred into the dimension, character, order and the shape of letters, the number of reversed letters); to all these we added the variety of the encadrement, considering the stamps as a whole: letters + encadrement. Practically, when are we talking about concrete stamps, we are referring about variants of stamps; in this context is particularly important the translation, the correct decoding of the shortened text.
