Abstract
The Indo-European religion is a polytheistic one that gathers under its umbrella a multitude of deities and cults that are specific to each group and geographic area; a peasant’s and popular religion, a reflection of diversity; a religion that is naturally tolerant and doesn’t know the phenomenon of proselytism, each group guarding scrupulously its gods, rites and magic formulae. In this respect we can talk about an esoteric, initiatic religion that knows myths and symbols but doesn’t know dogmas. It is a religion of facts not of faith, more lived than thought, a religion that rejects sentimentalism. It is the religion of militar commanders not of priests, thus is lacked of fanatism, being a political religion. “The superstition” is not very well regarded; the individual magic is despised (although is practiced), sorcery being severly repressed. Gods are regarded as personal beings, although nothing more can be said about their nature.
