Abstract
This article focusses on the problem of poetical authenticity and on the struggle of postwar Romanian criticism of attributing the value of authenticity according to a dichotomic system. Authenticity itself is conceived as a concept related either to „natural” or to „artificial”. The assessment made in favour of the second by N. Manolescu in the seventh decade of the last century prompted the young generation of the ’80s (whose mentor Manolescu tried to be) to adopt an aesthetics which was not entirely its own, as the poetry or teoretical positions of some of its members demonstrate. This article describes the fake opposites implied by this dichotomy and how the paradoxical nature of postwar authenticity is perceived in Western theory and also in the Romanian poetry and criticism. The search for authenticity, as a concept beyond „natural”/„artificial”, modernist/ postmodernist etc. is what relates the many postwarpoetics.
Résume
Cet article sur le sujet de l’authenticite poetique dans la poesie Roumaine de la deuxieme moitie du XXeme siecle s’occupe de l’une des plus importantes dichotomies que la critique roumaine a appliquee dans l’etude et la promotion de la nouvelle poesie, notamment l’opposition entre le naturel et l’artificiel. Nicolae Manolescu, le critique de la generation des annees ’80, a dirije son faveur vers l’esthetique de l’ artifice, en considerant que seule l’authenticite, ne fait pas une grande poesie. En confondant authenticite pour sincerite, Manolescu a construit une fausse theorie pour l’authenticite postmoderne de la generation des annees 80s et, en le meme temps, a etabli un system d’oppositions difficiles a contester. Cet etude identifie l’authenticite comme un concept du paradoxe, de la „naturalisation” de l’artificiel, qui depasse les oppositions de la critique et qui constitue l’esthetique essentiel des poetes, des 1960s jusqu’au present.
Rezumat
Acest articol discută problema autenticităţii poetice în critica română postbelică, la intersecţia a două concepte şi estetici opuse, a naturalului, respectiv a artificialului. Pornind de la un articol care discută poziţiile opuse ocupate de doi importanţi poeţi britanici în imaginarul public, autoarea atrage atenţia asupra situaţiei actuale similare din cultura română. După o introducere în teoriile occidentale postbelice care au ca obiect autenticitatea în literatură, studiul discută sistemul critic postbelic din perspectiva opoziţiei natural/artificial, corespunzătoare distincţiei modernist/postmodernist. Avându-şi originea în teoria lui N. Manolescu, această opoziţie împarte în două tabere rivale poezia română, între şaizecişti şi optzecişti, excluzând posibilitatea unei autenticităţi paradoxale, care să„renaturalizeze” artificiul – şi care caracterizează de fapt unele poetici optzeciste, nouăzeciste sau douămiiste.
