Abstract
Being an inherent part of the theory of semiotics, pragmatics focuses within a narrow range, on the rapport between signs and the one who makes use of them during the processes of communication and meaning. This paper attempts to highlight the efficiency and supremacy of the pragmatics’ view over the ironic discourse in Sorescu’s theatrical writing, due to his specific working methods. Irony, perceived by specialists as conversational implicature (Grice), or as indirect speech act (Searle), or as a strategy of politeness (Brown and Levinson), develops into an incredibly appealing subject of study, due to its numerous production mechanisms within the dramatic literary discourse, thus initiating special interpretational frameworks of the language, which is regarded as being in action. The choice for Sorescu’s theatrical work and the study of its related ironic discourse lie in the belief that the dramatic discourse is the closest to the verbal exchanges in a society, thus thoroughly justifying a pragmatics analysis.
Rezumat
Ca parte integrantă a teoriei semiotice, în sens strâns, pragmatica îşi fixează sfera de interes asupra relaţiilor stabilite între semne şi cel care utilizează semnele în procesele de comunicare şi semnificare. Această lucrare îşi propune să scoată în evidenţă eficienţa şi supremaţia perspectivei pragmatice asupra discursului ironic din teatrul sorescian, datorită metodelor sale de lucru specifice. Văzută de specialiştii din domeniul pragmaticii fie ca implicatură conversaţională (Grice), fie ca act de vorbire indirectă (Searle), fie ca strategie a politeţii (Brown şi Levinson), ironia, prin mecanismele sale variate de producere în cadrul discursului literar dramatic devine un obiect de studiu de mare interes pentru lingvist, propunând grile speciale de interpretare a limbii în acţiune. Opţiunea pentru teatrul sorescian şi studiul discursului ironic aferent acestuia îşi găseşte resursele în convingerea că discursul dramatic este cel mai apropiat de schimburile verbale din societate, astfel că o analiză pragmatică a acestui tip de discurs îşi găseşte pe deplin justificarea.
